60% of the Dutch population doesn’t exercise enough. The Municipality of Amsterdam and Erik Scherder are taking the initiative to bring about a change in this. I was tasked with creating a concept, identity, and campaign for a new fitness park in the Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam Forest). The aim is to encourage more Amsterdam residents to engage in sports.
The concept I came up with is called LUMINA Fit (Lumina means glowing in Latin). The questions I kept asking myself was: ‘Why would people from all over Amsterdam come all the way to het Amsterdamse Bos in the south? What makes my fitness park motivate people?’
People in Amsterdam love entertainment and the newest interactive technology. So for my concept I came up with a big light project. Each sports equipment in the park is surrounded by colorful blobs that each light up the more you sport. So to make one big light art you have to keep exercising. When everyone is exercising together in the park, they get to create a big light art piece around them. Let’s brighten up the forrest!
I designed an app where people can see the amount of light circles they have reached so far. The more you reach with exercising the higher level you get. When you go to the LuminaFit park you can log in on the sport equipment and connect it to your phone. The app also includes an about page and a leaderboard. The leaderboard will make it more motivating to get to a higher level.

Most of the design of the app is all drawn by hand by me. This gives it a personal and fun look.
When walking through the forest you will see these banners advertising LUMINAFit.
When arriving at the park for the first time you can read on this information board all about the concept. There is als a map to see where you are located in the forest and a QR code to download the app and make an account.

This information board I also made hand drawn

Before I designed this project I did lots of research and brainstorming. Once I came up with my concept, I put together this moodboard as a guideline. From there on I made many sketches in my sketchbooks and experimented a lot in PhotoShop.
I scanned some of my drawings and used them in my designs.
I photographed my boyfriend to be the face of the campaign. I made him run while I took pictures, for a very sportive and motivational feel.
